Nikki Haley and Mike Pompeo Excluded From Trump’s Next Term Plans

(LibertySociety.com) – President-Elect Donald Trump announced on Saturday that former U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley and former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo will not be part of his new administration. In a post on Truth Social, Trump confirmed that while he valued their previous contributions, he would be forming his team without them.

Trump wrote:

“I will not be inviting former Ambassador Nikki Haley, or former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, to join the Trump Administration, which is currently in formation. I very much enjoyed and appreciated working with them previously, and would like to thank them for their service to our Country. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!”

Haley responded shortly after, stating:

“I was proud to work with President Trump defending America at the United Nations. I wish him, and all who serve, great success in moving us forward to a stronger, safer America over the next four years.”

Both Haley and Pompeo served in senior roles during Trump’s first term, but have since had divergent paths and sometimes contentious relationships with the former president. Haley ran against Trump in the 2024 Republican primary, drawing support from GOP factions opposed to Trump’s leadership. Despite her challenge, Haley’s response to Trump’s announcement remained supportive.

Pompeo, who was also rumored to be under consideration for a role in the new administration, had been a topic of debate among Trump loyalists. A recent Fox News report speculated on his possible return, suggesting he could lead the Department of Defense. The New York Times’ Maggie Haberman also reported that Pompeo’s previous experience in managing Trump made him a candidate for key positions.

However, Trump’s base and allies voiced significant reservations about Pompeo’s involvement, particularly following comments he made in 2023 criticizing Trump’s handling of classified documents. Pompeo had stated at the time, “That’s inconsistent with protecting America’s soldiers, sailors, airmen and Marines,” raising doubts among Trump’s supporters about his loyalty to the former president.

With Trump’s new administration taking shape, his decision to distance himself from both Haley and Pompeo signals a continued emphasis on loyalty and alignment with his current vision.
