(LibertySociety.com) – It’s no secret that China is becoming more of a concern for America. A report by the Council on Foreign Relations released on Tuesday, March 23, highlighted that threat.
The report found China’s 2013 “Belt and Road Initiative” (BRI) is creating a “significant challenge” to the US “economic, political, climate change, security, and global health interests.” The BRI was conceived to connect the country’s cities on its coast to underdeveloped cities inland and to neighboring countries. However, the report said it has now expanded “to all corners of the globe.”

The Council’s taskforce said US “inaction” is partly to blame for the BRI threat. The report recommends the US work with other nations to meet developing nations’ needs to combat it. Also, it suggests implementing policies to improve America’s “competitiveness,” identifying the risks posed by the BRI and protecting its “security interests” in the countries impacted by the BRI. Failing to act could leave the US “grossly disadvantaged,” according to the head of the task force Admiral Gary Roughead.
