Man Finds Multi-Million Dollar Check Belonging to Haribo – Gets Rewarded With Chump Change

(LibertySociety.com) – On November 10, BILD reported a man in Germany found a large check written to Haribo, destroyed it, as asked, and only received candy as a thank you. Anouar G., who discovered the check at a tram stop on his way home from visiting his mom, said the company’s response to his action was “a bit cheap.”

The check was for about $4.8 million from a local supermarket chain to the candy maker and was evidently lost in transit. Anouar G. immediately contacted Haribo, and the entity’s lawyers asked him to destroy it and send proof he’d done so — he did. A few days later, a box of six bags of candy arrived at his home, which didn’t come close to the reward the man expected.

Haribo is a 102-year-old family-owned company famous for its gummy bears, sour gummy worms, and other candy confections. The business is well-known worldwide and produces about 100 million Goldbears every single day. With that kind of potential revenue and standing, it stands to reason the man who found millions of dollars that belonged to the company would expect more of a thank you.

Although Haribo was grateful for the man’s honesty, they said the check could never have been cashed by anyone but the company anyway, and the package was its standard appreciation gift.
