(LibertySociety.com) – The former commander of the National Guard unit Minnesota Governor Tim Walz once led last weekend challenged the Democratic vice presidential candidate’s claims about his military service, saying that it was an “affront” to the NCO Corps for Walz to continue claiming a rank that he did not earn.
Former Lt. Col. John Kolb, who served in the 125th Field Artillery unit of the Minnesota National Guard said in a Facebook post that Walz did not earn the E9 rank nor did he “complete any assignment” at that rank before retiring from the National Guard just as his unit was deployed to Iraq.
Throughout his political career, Walz has portrayed himself as a retired Command Sargeant Major, however, Kolb said that while Walz was selected for promotion, the rank was never granted before he retired.
Walz’s rank is just one of many inaccuracies that have emerged about his military service.
The Harris campaign recently admitted that Walz “misspoke” in a 2018 video promoted by the campaign in which he claimed to have carried an assault weapon “in war.” However, the campaign has yet to address the many other times Walz either embellished his military service or tacitly refused to correct the record when others described him as an Iraq war veteran.
While appearing on CNN’s “State of the Union” last Sunday, Republican vice presidential nominee JD Vance noted that Walz did not “misspeak” but “lied” about his service and failed to correct the record for the 15 years he has been in politics.
In an interview with the UK tabloid The Daily Mail, the mother of a US soldier killed in Iraq blasted Governor Walz, saying he took the “coward’s way out.”
Kathy Miller, whose son Kyle was killed by a roadside bomb in June 2006 on the deployment Walz avoided by retiring, said she would never trust the Democrat vice presidential nominee.
Miller said her 19-year-old son “stepped up to the plate” to serve his country like so many other American soldiers while Tim Walz ran away.
