Mike Pence Slapped With Subpoena By Special Counsel

Former Vice President Mike Pence Subpoenaed by Special Counsel

(LibertySociety.com) – Three months after Attorney General Merrick Garland appointed a special counsel to investigate former President Donald Trump, attorney Jack Smith sent a subpoena to former Vice President Mike Pence. While it’s not known exactly what information Smith is looking for, it is known that he is looking into Trump’s efforts to overturn the results of the 2020 election. According to a Fox News report, the former VP’s legal team had been in communications with federal prosecutors for several months now.

The special counsel was appointed in November 2022 after former President Trump announced that he would be running for President again in 2024, with Garland stating that it was in the public interest. Shortly thereafter, the former President criticized the Attorney General’s choice to be the special counsel, calling him a “Trump hating thug,” suggesting the DOJ should be investigating President Biden instead of him. Richard Grenell seems to have personal beef with Smith as well, accusing him on Twitter of having TDS (Trump Derangement Syndrome) because he interfered with their work between Kosovo and Serbia.

In addition to Pence, Smith subpoenaed Robert O’Brien, former National Security Adviser for the Trump Administration from 2019-2021. According to an unnamed source who talked with CNN, O’Brien has been claiming executive privilege for certain things, but that information has not been verified by other sources yet. The investigation seems to be gaining steam, although it’s unclear at this point if anything will come of it. Former President Trump continues to insist that he did nothing wrong. Meanwhile, Garland also appointed a special counsel to investigate President Biden’s mishandling of classified documents from his time as Vice-President and as a Senator.

On February 15, news outlets reported that Pence is planning to fight the subpoena.
