(LibertySociety.com) – Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi recently made pointed remarks about former President Donald Trump’s health, suggesting his cognitive abilities are declining to a degree that could prevent him from completing a four-year presidential term if elected again. In an interview on MSNBC, Pelosi cautioned voters that a vote for Trump might ultimately place his running mate, Sen. J.D. Vance, in the Oval Office. “They have to know that he can’t last as president for four years with his brain deteriorating at the rate that it is,” she stated. “They may be voting for President Vance, which would be a horrible thing for our country.”
The remarks came after Trump joked at a rally in Pennsylvania that the press “would have to shoot through the fake news” to get to him, following an incident earlier in the year in which Trump was shot in the ear during a speech. Pelosi seized on his comment, calling it “further indication of his cognitive degeneration,” and referenced an odd statement Trump made earlier about choosing between electrocution and being eaten by sharks, adding, “Something’s very wrong there.”
The Trump campaign quickly countered Pelosi’s statements, with national press secretary Karoline Leavitt responding, “The only thing deteriorating is Nancy Pelosi, a decrepit washed-up corrupt politician whom America can no longer stand.” Leavitt suggested that Pelosi “should go back to the City of San Francisco, which she has totally destroyed, and never return.”
Pelosi, who has represented California’s 12th District since 1987, remains a vocal figure in national politics, frequently critiquing Trump and the Republican leadership. This latest exchange underscores the deep animosity between Pelosi and Trump as the 2024 election approaches, with both sides fiercely debating fitness for office.
