Mace Labels AOC’s Stance on Bathroom Laws Hypocritical

(LibertySociety.com) – Rep. Nancy Mace, R-S.C., is standing firm in her support for a proposed resolution to ban transgender women from using women’s restrooms in the U.S. Capitol, despite backlash from critics, including Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y. The South Carolina lawmaker introduced the measure last week, framing it as a step toward protecting women and addressing what she called the “systematic erasure of biological women.”

Speaking on Fox & Friends Weekend, Mace dismissed accusations that her proposal endangers women and girls, calling the criticism from Democrats “the height of hypocrisy.” She argued that her resolution is about safeguarding women and standing against policies that she says fail to protect them.

The resolution would require that members of the House, officers, and employees use single-sex facilities corresponding to their biological sex. Enforcement would fall to the House sergeant at arms. Mace, a survivor of rape and sexual abuse, emphasized that the legislation is rooted in protecting women’s privacy and safety. She described the measure as a stand against what she called “radical” policies that undermine women’s rights.

Her comments come as Rep.-elect Sarah McBride, D-Del., the first openly transgender lawmaker in Congress, prepares to take office in January. Ocasio-Cortez strongly condemned the resolution, suggesting it would lead to invasive practices and pose risks to women. “What Nancy Mace and Speaker Johnson are doing is endangering all women and girls,” AOC said, accusing the measure of fostering a culture of suspicion and discrimination.

Mace dismissed these remarks as baseless. “[AOC] is not telling the truth,” Mace responded. “No one has ever said that women should drop trow. That’s really disgusting.” Mace also reported receiving threats and confrontations since introducing the resolution, but she remains unwavering in her stance.

The debate reflects broader cultural and political tensions surrounding gender identity, safety, and privacy, with the Capitol becoming the latest battleground in a contentious national conversation.
