Liz Cheney Will Support Democrats During Midterms

( – On September 24, Representative Liz Cheney (R-WY) spoke at the Texas Tribune Festival, where the legislator confirmed she would back Democratic candidates who are running against “election denier[s]” in the midterms. The lawmaker said Republicans couldn’t allow that “kind of thing” in the conservative party.

Cheney has been one of the most prominent faces in the January 6 Committee, losing the primary in her state to congressional opponent Harriet Hageman as a direct result. After her defeat, she redirected her campaign funds to actively keep former President Donald Trump and, apparently, many of his most loyal supporters, out of office.

The Wyoming legislator even said she would drop her own party and switch to the other side if Trump became the 2024 presidential candidate for the Republicans. Although Cheney supported the former US leader and most of his policies while in office — voting alongside him 93% of the time — that all changed after January 6, 2021. The politician voted to impeach Trump for his role in the events at the Capitol and has been vocal about her stance on the previous commander in chief since. She thinks the former president has an “iron grip” on the GOP and is pushing members farther to the right.

Cheney said she will oppose any Republican who believes the 2020 election was stolen, even if it means backing Democratic candidates to keep them out of office.
