(LibertySociety.com) – New York Attorney General Letitia James vowed Monday to continue her legal efforts against President-Elect Donald Trump, declaring her office has been gearing up for months in anticipation of Trump’s return to the White House. Speaking with reporters just days after Trump’s sweeping election victory, James reiterated her commitment to hold him accountable in an ongoing civil case involving allegations of property undervaluation and financial misconduct.
James, a vocal critic of Trump, previously led a case against him and three of his children, alleging that they manipulated property values to obtain favorable loan terms, lower insurance rates, and reduced taxes. Trump’s organization was found liable, resulting in a penalty of over $350 million.
“We are prepared to respond to this result, and my office has been preparing for several months because we’ve been here before,” James stated. “We faced this challenge before, and we use the rule of law to fight back, and we are prepared to fight back once again.”
In her statement, James underscored that her role as attorney general requires her to protect New Yorkers and defend the rule of law, regardless of who occupies the Oval Office. “As Attorney General of this great state, it is my job to protect and defend the rights of New Yorkers and the rule of law, and I will not shrink from that responsibility,” she added.
The case, which centers on alleged fraudulent financial practices, has become a focal point of James’s tenure. While critics argue that James’s actions are politically motivated, she has consistently framed her efforts as part of a broader mission to uphold justice and maintain fair business practices in New York.
Trump, who has repeatedly dismissed the case as a political “witch hunt,” has appealed several rulings and continues to contest James’s allegations. His legal team has argued that property valuations are subjective and that the case is driven more by political aims than legal merit.
