Lee Zeldin Announces Support of Donald Trump for 2024

Lee Zeldin Endorses Trump After Meeting With DeSantis

(LibertySociety.com) – Former President Trump scored another endorsement on Monday, April 24th, 2023, when Lee Zeldin, a former U.S. Representative for Long Island, New York, announced his support for a second term for the 45th President. Zeldin most recently challenged Democrat New York Governor Kathy Hochul, who was thrust into the governorship after Governor Andrew Cuomo resigned in 2021. Although his candidacy failed, he won 35% of the vote in New York City.

Zeldin tweeted that “The GOP is filled with amazing talent to save our country from the failed policies of the Biden admin,” expressing confidence that the 45th President will also be the 47th President. Zeldin’s endorsement comes just weeks after he met with Republican Florida Governor Ron DeSantis during DeSantis’ book tour, where he told the crowd that Governor DeSantis is “The greatest governor in America.” Zeldin is the second prominent Republican to endorse former President Trump after meeting with Governor DeSantis, as a similar occurrence happened with Representative Lance Gooden, R-Texas, who announced his support for the former president on the same day he met with DeSantis.

Zeldin announced a new Political Action Committee in March 2023 called Leadership America Needs PAC, which aims to recruit younger Gen-Z and Millennials, as well as looking to reach more black, Latino, and Jewish voters. Although there has not been an official announcement from Zeldin, many are speculating that he will be challenging Senator Kristen Gillibrand, D-N.Y., to unseat her in the U.S. Senate in 2024. Zeldin has called for a real red wave for the Republican Party, expressing the need to do the work and spread the right message to make it happen.

Zeldin’s endorsement comes just as former President Trump received his 11th endorsement from members of the U.S. Senate, including the chair of the National Republican Senatorial Committee, Montana Senator Steve Daines, which marks his first endorsement from a Senator who holds a leadership position.
