(LibertySociety.com) – Although it was reported back in January 2021 that former President Donald Trump said he was ordering the documents from Crossfire Hurricane to be declassified, some are revisiting the action that would have shed light on the FBI investigation into the ties between Russia and Trump’s 2016 campaign. Rogan O’Handley, also known as DC Draino on Twitter, Tweeted a signed letter last week from Trump show his followers why he believes the FBI raided former President Trump’s Mar-a-Lago residence back in August 2022.
Draino claimed in his Tweet that the raid at Mar-a-Lago was to recover the Crossfire Hurricane documents so they could be sure that the public never sees them. He also claimed that the documents showed that former President Obama, current President Joe Biden, and the feds “spied on” Trump. However, no evidence of that has surfaced at this point.
According to reports, it was 2022 when lawmakers were pushing the Department of Justice (DOJ) to release the documents, over a year after Trump had ordered it. The DOJ claimed that a violation of privacy would occur if names were not redacted in the documents. It’s been argued that the Privacy Act does not apply to the White House, but to be sure that the order was carried out, Trump’s Chief of Staff, Mark Meadows, sent a memo back to the DOJ with the binder, clarifying that they expected the binder to be prepared for public release. The memo was reportedly obtained by John Solomon at Just The News.
Extra measures were taken to protect the names that are referenced in the binder, and Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests have been denied. The National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) claimed they do not have a record of the binder. Key players in the investigation of then-candidate Trump’s campaign, included then-CIA Director John Brennan, then-FBI Director James Comey, and others.
