(LibertySociety.com) – In November 2022, Governor Greg Abbott (R) will face Democratic candidate Beto O’Rourke for his seat as leader of Texas. Recent polling is already showing favorable signs toward the sitting governor of the Lone Star state.
A recent Quinnipiac poll shows the two-time governor beating his challenger by an impressive 15 points despite the country’s current controversy over abortion laws. Those polled pointed to the problems at the Mexican border as the most pressing issue, and 58% believe Abbott would do a better job handling that crisis. The second most important issue concerning Texans was the economy, and 60% of those polled have faith the current governor is better-suited to address economic issues.
Quinnipiac poll of Texas-Gov has:
Greg Abbott (R) 52
Beto O'Rourke (D) 37Abbott job approval: 53/41
Biden job approval: 32/64
O'Rourke favorability: 36/47Dec. 2-6, 1224 RVs, MoE +/- 2.8%https://t.co/l4szbcQwR2

Surprisingly, only 9% of people in the Quinnipiac poll saw abortion as an important voting point of concern. Still, 8% had more confidence in Abbott regarding women’s rights. Some believe the polling showed SCOTUS possibly overturning Roe v. Wade would have little impact on the 2022 midterm elections. In fact, some Democratic strategists may tell their clients “not to focus on abortion rights at all” during their campaigns.
Although the results are only from one poll regarding the upcoming Texas gubernatorial race, the sampling of opinions about the race looks promising for the incumbent to continue leading the Lone Star State.
