Kanye West Pulls Most Controversial Political Stunt Yet
(LibertySociety.com) – On October 3, rapper Kayne West wore a “White Lives Matter” shirt while attending Paris Fashion Week. The designer was at the event to promote his Yeezy clothing line. West was reportedly wearing the top while doing his YZY SZN 9 presentation, with some models wearing “variations of the same design” during the display.

The Anti-Defamation League sees the phrase as a “hate slogan,” while the Southern Poverty Law Center believes White Lives Matter is a racist “neo-Nazi” group. West’s clothing choice that day shocked many and drew much criticism, but he didn’t stop there. The next morning, he went to Instagram to declare the Black Lives Matter movement a “scam.”
Dr. Wendy Osefo from “The Real Housewives of the Potomac” called West’s actions “irresponsible” and “dangerous.” Some users on social media believe the music artist is simply looking for attention, while others think he has the right to express himself. BET News host Marc Lamont Hill called the shirt “disgusting,” but political commentator Nick Adams said West was simply speaking the truth.
What #KanyeWest is doing is not only intellectually dishonest it’s irresponsible and borderline dangerous.

Conservative TV show host Candace Owens also touted the controversial phrase on the back of her shirt at the fashion show alongside West. Both tops depicted pictures of a pope. Owens had an image of Pope John Paul I, and the designer had a picture of Pope John Paul II, with “we will follow your example” in Spanish scrawled at the top.
What do you think about the shirts and the message, and why do you think West chose the Paris fashion show to spread the contentious issue?
