Kamala Harris Gives One of the Shortest Acceptance Speeches

(LibertySociety.com) – Vice President Kamala Harris closed out the Democratic National Convention by delivering one of the shortest acceptance speeches in recent history.

The Democrat nominee spoke for only 38 minutes, making her acceptance speech the 12th-shortest.

Donald Trump’s acceptance speech last month clocked in at 92 minutes, 15 minutes longer than the previous record, which was Trump’s acceptance speech at the 2016 Republican National Convention.

Unlike Trump, Vice President Harris is unable to speak extemporaneously and is more likely to stick to the script written for her.

The Harris campaign has faced criticism for refusing to make their candidate available for one-on-one interviews or press conferences in which Harris would have to speak off the cuff.

The vice president told reporters in early August that she planned to sit down for an interview before the end of the month. But as August came to a close, there was no interview scheduled.

At this rate, voters may not hear an unscripted Vice President Harris until the September 10 presidential debate airing on ABC News.

The Harris campaign on Monday sought to change the rules for the September 10 ABC News debate to ensure that a candidate’s microphone does not get muted when the other is speaking.

The rule was demanded by the Biden campaign to prevent a repeat of the 2020 debate in which Trump and Biden shouted over each other’s answers. However, the Harris campaign, already nervous about their candidate’s prospects in an unscripted 90-minute debate, is asking that the rule be scrapped, no doubt in hopes that Trump interrupts Harris, handing her a perfect opportunity for a rehearsed zinger.

Harris campaign spokesman Brian Fallon admitted as much in a statement on Monday, claiming that the Trump campaign was afraid to keep the microphones on out of fear that Trump may appear unpresidential. Fallon admitted that Vice President Harris was “ready to deal with Trump” if he interrupted her.

When asked if he would be willing to change the rule to benefit Harris, Trump suggested that he would be fine with the microphones staying on but said that the rule to mute them was approved by both campaigns and should not be changed.
