Kamala Harris Fumbles Explanation of Changes from Biden’s Policies

(LibertySociety.com) – During her appearance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert on Tuesday, Vice President Kamala Harris struggled to outline her achievements when challenged directly about her role and impact in office. Colbert pressed Harris by asking her to detail what policy changes she had been able to implement during her tenure as vice president, a question that seemed to catch Harris off guard.

Colbert specifically referenced criticisms from her opponents, who have suggested that Harris, after three and a half years in office, should have made more of a visible difference. “Can you describe to them what the job of vice president is like, and what have you told Gov. Tim Walz (D) about the job?” Colbert asked, attempting to draw out a concrete response from her about her influence and role in the administration.

Harris’s response deflected the question about specific achievements, focusing instead on the general nature of the vice presidency. “I have pointed out, through my three and a half years of being Vice President, that it’s Vice President,” she said, adding that there are “a lot of responsibilities,” without providing details on specific policies or actions she has taken. Instead, she referenced a child who had explained the role of vice president in a news clip, which she suggested offered a better civics lesson on the limits of her powers.

This lack of specifics has drawn attention before. In August, Breitbart News Editor-in-Chief Alex Marlow noted that Harris’s supporters often fail to point to any significant accomplishments in her career. During a rally in Phoenix, Arizona, reporter Kalen D’Almeida interviewed Harris’s supporters, asking them what achievements they could attribute to the vice president. The responses mostly pointed to her “vibe” and being “good for women,” without highlighting any concrete political achievements.

The interview reinforced a recurring criticism of Harris, that despite being a high-ranking official, her impact remains unclear to many, with much of the focus on her symbolic role rather than substantial policy changes. Colbert’s question underlined that perception, but Harris pivoted to discussing the general responsibilities of her office without elaborating on any major changes she would make versus President Biden’s leadership.

The struggle to explain her achievements has become a point of contention, especially among her critics. During the interview, Harris failed to provide specific policy changes that would distinguish her from Biden, reinforcing a narrative that she has yet to leave a clear mark on the administration’s policies.
