Kamala Harris Allegedly Offered Cornel West Job, Debt Payoff to Quit

(LibertySociety.com) – Dr. Cornel West, an independent left-wing presidential candidate, recently accused Vice President Kamala Harris’s campaign of offering him a position in her potential administration and promising to cover his campaign debts if he dropped out of the 2024 race. West made these claims in an interview with independent journalist Jordan Chariton on the Status Coup News podcast, shortly after the Democratic National Convention in Chicago.

During the interview, West explained that several individuals from Harris’s camp reached out, encouraging him to abandon his campaign, emphasizing the “historic” nature of Harris’s candidacy. West declined their offers, saying, “You can offer resources or a position or what have you — that’s not what I’m all about.” Although he did not provide specific details, West implied that the offer involved a high-ranking position, adding that there were “serious, substantive” discussions about paying off his campaign debts.

Democrats are reportedly concerned that West’s candidacy could siphon off left-wing votes, potentially tipping key swing states to Donald Trump. Legal efforts have been made to remove West from ballots in multiple states, but his campaign recently announced success in securing ballot access in 18 states, including battlegrounds like Michigan, Georgia, and Wisconsin.

West’s allegations bear some resemblance to a previous incident in 2010, when the Obama administration offered Rep. Joe Sestak a job in an attempt to persuade him not to challenge then-Sen. Arlen Specter in Pennsylvania. Although the White House initially denied any quid pro quo, they later admitted to using former President Bill Clinton as an intermediary.

As West continues his campaign, his refusal to bow to pressure from the Democratic establishment could influence the 2024 race, particularly in critical swing states where every vote may count.
