(LibertySociety.com) – The Harris campaign has put together a massive legal team that includes former DNC election lawyer Marc Elias, to oversee the campaign’s legal challenges in the upcoming election.
The legal team will be headed up by President Joe Biden’s attorney Bob Bauer and includes hundreds of lawyers as well as thousands of volunteers to focus on voter protection, potential recounts, and any litigation following the November election.
In addition to Marc Elias, the Harris campaign’s sprawling legal team also includes top Justice Department official Vanita Gupta as an informal legal advisor.
Elias, who played a central role when the Clinton campaign hired opposition research group Fusion GPS during the 2016 election, is also bringing a team from his law firm Elias Law Group.
It was Elias who paid Fusion GPS to compile the now-discredited Steele Dossier that alleged links between Donald Trump and the Kremlin. In 2022, the Federal Election Commission fined the Clinton campaign and the DNC for falsely reporting that the payment to Elias was for legal services rather than opposition research.
During the 2020 election, Elias served as general counsel to Harris’ failed presidential campaign.
Dana Remus, who previously served as general counsel to Joe Biden’s 2020 presidential campaign, will join Bob Bauer in leading the Harris campaign’s vast legal infrastructure.
The legal team will also feature attorneys from three top law firms to handle election litigation. These law firms will also deploy local lawyers in the eight battleground states as well as four other key states in the general election.
According to Dana Remus, much of the legal team had already been working “uninterrupted” in battleground states over the past four years “preparing for all possible scenarios.”
She said the Harris campaign has compiled “the nation’s finest lawyers” who will work to ensure that the 2024 election is “free, fair, and secure.”
The Biden campaign initially assembled the legal team in July 2020 to counter the Republican National Committee which was already laying the groundwork to challenge election laws.
