(LibertySociety.com) – The Republican National Convention (RNC) featured many guest speakers, who praised former President Donald Trump as the party’s nominee. One of the most memorable speakers was Trump’s granddaughter, who felt the need to tell the public about her grandfather after almost losing him in an attempted assassination a few days prior, and said he “truly wants the best” for America.
On Wednesday, July 17, the third day of the RNC, Donald Trump Jr. took to the stage and told the crowd of attendees and delegates that he was about to give the mic to someone else, something he said a Trump rarely does. But the person he announced to speak was another Trump: his daughter, Kai Madison Trump, who Trump Jr. said asked him if she could address the RNC.
In her debut speech, the 17-year-old said that although most people see Trump as the president, to her, he’s just a “normal grandpa” who gives her “candy and soda” when her parents aren’t looking or calls to check up on her and ask how she’s doing in school. She said the media tends to paint a different picture of her grandfather to make him “seem like a different person” than the one she knows. Kai told the RNC that she wanted to speak to share with the country a side of her grandfather “that people don’t often see.”
Kai recounted how when she made the honor roll in high school, Trump “printed it out” to brag to his friends how proud he was of her. She said he would sometimes call her during the school day to ask her about her “golf game,” after which she had to remind him that she was in school and would have to call him back. The two are known to frequently play golf together, and she spoke about how Trump would try to get inside her head when not on the same team, to which she had to remind him she was “a Trump, too.”
Trump’s granddaughter also mentioned the attempt on his life, which she said “shocked” her. Kai said she wanted to know if her grandfather was okay and found it “heartbreaking” that someone wanted to “do that to another person.” She concluded by saying despite being put “through hell”, her grandfather was “still standing” and that she considered him an inspiration.
