(LibertySociety.com) – Republican House Speaker Mike Johnson of Louisiana believes the Democratic Party is covering up the diminishing capabilities of President Joe Biden to convince the American people that he can finish the remainder of his term despite dropping out of the 2024 presidential race.
On Sunday, June 21, Biden posted a letter announcing he would not continue to seek reelection. In a subsequent post, he also threw his weight behind Vice President Kamala Harris as the candidate he would like to see replace him. On the same day, Johnson appeared on CNN’s “State of the Union” and accused the Democrats of participating in a “big cover-up.” CNN anchor Jake Tapper questioned Johnson about his private meetings with Biden and whether or not the president “seemed cognitively impaired” to the House Speaker.
Johnson replied affirmatively and said he did not mean to appear on the show to talk about his “personal interactions” with Biden because his main concern was the general “projection of weakness” the president shows “on the world stage” during a dangerous time for the nation. He then added that since the cat was “out of the bag,” he would “affirm what everyone else” already knew and could see, which is that the Democrats are “involved in a big cover-up.”
The House Speaker said the point of the cover-up was to try and prevent people from seeing what everyone who interacted “in close proximity” with Biden had seen, which is that the president isn’t the same man who ran four years prior and has aged significantly. Johnson said he didn’t blame Biden for aging and his diminishing faculties, but that it “must be contended with.”
Tapper asked if Johnson was implying an investigation involving Congress or law enforcement should take place to uncover the cover-up. The House Speaker said the possibility has been discussed. He noted how top Democratic lawmakers appeared on television and claimed the president was “running circles” around them when they knew it “wasn’t true.”
