Biden Shows Pride Toward Bipartisan Agreement Reached In Congress
(LibertySociety.com) – In the wake of multiple deadly shootings across the United States, Congress forged a bipartisan agreement regarding gun control to help the nation. President Joe Biden praised the lawmakers for working together to accomplish the writing phase of the task and encouraged them to move forward quickly. He especially thanked Senator Chris Murphy (D-CT) and his group for taking the reins in drafting the legislative framework.
I want to thank Senator Chris Murphy and the bipartisan group for their gun safety proposal. It does not do everything that I think is needed, but it reflects important steps in the right direction.
With bipartisan support, there are no excuses for delay. Let’s get this done.

At the end of May, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) asked Senator John Cornyn (R-TX) to work with Democrats on this issue. Senators Kyrsten Sinema (D-AZ) and Thom Tillis (R-NC) joined Murphy and Cornyn as the main negotiators for the legislation.
The bipartisan group of 20 senators presented the bill to Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY), who promised to bring the bill to the floor “as soon as possible.” As it stands, the package includes extra checks for people under 21 who want to purchase a weapon, red flag law incentives for states, more dollars to address mental health issues, and the implementation of safety measures in schools to protect students and teachers.
The legislation also closes the boyfriend loophole by ensuring those who have a domestic violence restraining order and convicted domestic abusers can not obtain a gun.
While both Republicans and Democrats admit the agreement does not include everything both parties wanted, the compromise is a start. The fact that both sides are working together may be part of the reason Biden has relayed such positivity about the agreement.
