Jill Biden Reveals $500 Million Boost for Women’s Health by Pentagon

(LibertySociety.com) – Jill Biden excitedly revealed Monday night that the Pentagon is set to invest over $500 million annually into women’s health research. The first lady made the announcement during an elite Clinton Global Initiative event in New York City, appearing alongside Chelsea Clinton and Dr. Valerie Montgomery Rice. In what seemed like a personal mission, Biden shared her enthusiasm for this massive allocation of U.S. taxpayer dollars, saying, “It’s a big deal. And it’s about time.”

The Department of Defense later confirmed that the substantial funding will come from the Congressionally Directed Medical Research Programs, which supports specific biomedical research initiatives. According to the Pentagon, this investment is “critical” to addressing the healthcare needs of more than 230,000 active-duty servicewomen and nearly two million female military retirees. The department emphasized that research into women’s health not only benefits servicewomen but also has the potential to improve the overall health of women across the country.

Biden highlighted this broader impact during her remarks. “The research will improve the health of women in the military service, which then transcends to all women,” she said. “So, I’m so excited about that.”

Her announcement was made just before President Joe Biden was awarded the 2024 Clinton Global Citizen Award for his leadership. Bill Clinton, while presenting the honor, praised Biden for not only his accomplishments but also the manner in which he has achieved them. “He’s provided a playbook for getting things done,” Clinton said.

Standing alongside his wife, Hillary Clinton, and Chelsea Clinton, President Biden lightheartedly joked about the situation, saying, “This is what you call being trapped,” eliciting laughter from the audience.

The funding announcement underscores Jill Biden’s growing role in promoting health initiatives and highlights the administration’s ongoing commitment to women’s health, especially within the military. The sizable investment marks a significant shift in the Pentagon’s approach, putting women’s health research at the forefront of military medical priorities.
