(LibertySociety.com) – First Lady Jill Biden, 73, claimed her husband, President Joe Biden, 81, excelled during the June 27 debate with former President Donald Trump.
During the debate, Biden repeatedly froze and misspoke, causing many to criticize his performance. However, following the debate, at a watch party in Atlanta, the first lady told him, “You did such a great job,” adding that he answered all the questions and “knew all the facts.”
She also told those in attendance that Trump is a liar and he had not told the truth during the debate.
At a June 28 fundraiser in Greenwich Village, she did not mention his debate performance but instead said he “wakes up every morning thinking” how to “make the lives of Americans better.”
However, at another fundraiser later that day, she addressed the controversy surrounding Biden’s debate performance, saying they would not let those “90 minutes define the four years” of his presidency.
The first lady made similar comments when introducing her husband at a fundraiser on June 29 on Long Island, claiming “he’s the only person for the job.”
Despite his wife’s support, Biden’s debate performance has caused many people, both Republicans and Democrats, to question his age and his mental capabilities.
On Twitter, Republican Texas Rep. Chip Roy questioned, “Who is the Commander in Chief?” after sharing a video showing the first lady helping Biden off the state and down the short set stairs.
The first lady’s comments come as Democrats and political commentators called for the president to step down as the 2024 Democratic presidential candidate following his debate performance. Some political commentators, such as Nicole Wallace, noted that Biden’s debate performance has many in the Democratic Party questioning how a presidential candidate could step down at this point in the election cycle. On June 30, Democratic Maryland Rep. Jamie Raskin stated that Democrats are discussing if Biden should remain in the race as the party’s nominee.
