(LibertySociety.com) – Jeff Bezos, the founder of Amazon, went through one of the most underwhelming divorces in the history of high-profile splits when he and his wife MacKenzie called it quits in January 2019. Although the divorce settlement was massive, it was finalized within a few months without any publicized squabbles over money or shared interest in their business ventures. Both released a statement with kind things to say about one another. Now Jeff Bezos and his significant other Lauren Sanchez are reportedly engaged after five years together. She has been sporting a ring for several months that many thought was an engagement ring, but it was unknown if Bezos had popped the question yet.
Sanchez is a philanthropist and co-chair of the Bezos Earth Fund, which focuses on climate initiatives. During a November 2022 interview with CNN, the couple discussed how they were “building the capacity to be able to give away this money,” as Bezos intends to give away nearly all his wealth over the next several years. They also discussed the Bezos Courage and Civility Award, of which three have been given thus far, with the latest grant awarded to Dolly Parton in the amount of $100 million.
Critics of Bezos have questioned his commitment to giving away most of his wealth because he has not publicly named a specific amount, but the couple discussed their concerns with spending the money on “ineffective things,” adding that they have a team that is helping them make the best decisions. Like Bezos, Sanchez will visit outer space and plans to achieve that goal with an all-woman crew in the near future. Sanchez speaks often and publicly about her love for Bezos, never shying away from giving intimate details about his love for his family and humankind. Jeff is not the only Bezos who has a lot of wealth to give away to important causes. The Bezos Family Foundation, which was founded by his mother and stepfather, donated over $700 million toward cancer research in October, gifting the money to the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center in Seattle.
Page Six reported the news of the engagement on May 22, although Bezos and Sanchez themselves have yet to confirm it. Sanchez appeared to hint at the engagement in an Instagram story late last week.
