(LibertySociety.com) – Sen. JD Vance (R-OH), running mate of former President Donald Trump, sharply criticized Democrats and the media for dismissing the hardships caused by federal migration policy, specifically in Springfield, Ohio. Vance argued that local residents, overwhelmed by the influx of 20,000 illegal immigrants into their town of 60,000, have been ignored while facing rising housing costs, crime, and other societal disruptions.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Vance noted how Springfield citizens have long raised concerns about skyrocketing housing costs, increased car accidents, and crime, only to be met with indifference. “Confronted with many of their citizens begging for relief, our broken elites offer only scorn,” Vance wrote. He expressed frustration that those who voice these concerns are labeled “racist” for simply wanting a safer, more affordable community. He highlighted incidents where citizens were ridiculed for complaining about issues like rising auto insurance or migrants slaughtering geese in public parks.
Vance condemned the way media and Democratic leaders, including President Joe Biden, have responded, portraying the citizens’ frustrations as an attack on migrants, specifically the Haitian community, while downplaying the real-life consequences of the policies. “For our government to totally throw aside national citizens, people that were born and raised here… they’re treating us like we’re the trash,” one Springfield resident shared.
Biden, speaking on Friday, blamed former President Trump for inflaming tensions, stating, “It’s simply wrong. There’s no place in America. This has to stop, what he’s [Trump’s] doing.” Biden’s comments followed anonymous bomb threats in Springfield, which forced the closure of schools and government buildings.
Vance responded by condemning the threats but pushing back against attempts to silence local citizens. “Nothing justifies violence or the threat of violence… But the existence of threats doesn’t justify silencing those who wish to petition their leadership for a better life,” Vance stated, adding that it is Vice President Kamala Harris, not Trump, who is the real threat to democracy.
He accused Harris of prioritizing importing new voters over addressing the needs of existing citizens, arguing that she ignores communities like Springfield and would rather silence critics than address their concerns. Vance ended his remarks by reaffirming his support for Trump, calling him the only candidate who has consistently fought for the people Harris and the political establishment dismiss.
Since 2021, under the Biden-Harris administration, the U.S. has seen an influx of nearly 10 million legal and illegal immigrants—roughly one immigrant for every American birth.
