(LibertySociety.com) – Senator J.D. Vance has been a steady voice for the people of Ohio since the train carrying hazardous chemicals derailed on February 4th, 2023. Senator Vance shared a video of himself on Twitter, showing the concerning appearance of the water in a local creek and asking for help in applying pressure to federal agencies to be transparent with the public. The water had an iridescent film present when Senator Vance stirred it up.
Senator Vance told Fox News that his Department of Transportation could act, but to stop blaming former President Trump. This comment comes after Pete Buttigieg placed the blame on him for a rule that was withdrawn over braking in 2018. It appears that this was nothing more than a partisan swipe, seeming that the rule was withdrawn due to a law that was passed in 2015. According to a report from Newsweek, East Palestine residents called the attempt to blame the former President “absurd,” stating that it is the fault of the railway operator, Norfolk Southern.
Vance said the DoT should stop placing blame on Trump and simply do what needs to be done to help the people. He also called on President Biden to address the situation, stating that he should hold a press conference on the matter. He also expressed his frustration with the CDC’s vague communication with him, stating that they have not provided a straight answer when it comes to “acceptable levels of contamination.” Last week, Ohio Governor Mike DeWine recommended people who do not have public water supplies to drink bottled water in addition to having the water tested in their homes, and Vance reiterated this during his visit. Vance also asked for the EPA administrator to test out the water for residents by drinking it himself.
The cause of the train derailment is most likely due to a failed wheel bearing after examination, according to the National Transportation Safety Board. CCTV footage appears to show this as well, although the investigation has not concluded yet.
