Impeachment Inquiry Vote Possible by Mid-September

( – During a September 7 appearance on Newsmax, House Oversight Committee Chair James Comer, R-Ky., discussed the potential impeachment of President Biden. Comer told Newsmax host Rob Schmitt that he believes a vote for an official impeachment inquiry could come mid-September. He said that he believed the vote would pass, but that the decision to bring the vote to the floor was ultimately up to House Speaker Kevin McCarthy. Comer noted that some Republicans have been skeptical about voting on an impeachment inquiry but have since changed their minds in light of new evidence.

Comer believes that those doubtful lawmakers were swayed when they learned of Biden’s use of multiple pseudonyms during his vice presidency. He used the phony names to communicate with his son Hunter Biden, who was entrenched in multiple business deals in several foreign countries. The younger Biden has been under investigation since 2019 and will likely face some charges later in September, although the investigation has heated up since Attorney General Merrick Garland named U.S. Attorney David Weiss as Special Counsel.

Comer said that the impeachment inquiry would allow the committee to get more documents that they have been seeking. Since the investigation began earlier this year, the committee has been stonewalled by various government agencies, including the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) and the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA). The investigation into Hunter Biden was partially conducted by the IRS, but whistleblowers within the agency came forward to the House Ways and Means Committee back in July with claims of interference by the Department of Justice (DOJ). The emails from then-VP Joe Biden to his son from the pseudonymous accounts are held at NARA, and Comer demanded that the unredacted versions be turned over to the committee for review. Included in his letter to NARA, Comer asked for the flight manifests for Air Force Two, likely to see how many trips Hunter Biden took with his father to various countries around the world. Comer also demanded all documents, including the executive calendars created for Biden during the entire eight years of his vice presidency. Comer is giving NARA until September 20 to hand over the documents.
