Hunter Biden Allegedly Accepted Funds to Influence U.S. Agencies

(LibertySociety.com) – In court papers filed last week, the special counsel investigating Hunter Biden’s foreign business deals revealed that during Joe Biden’s time as vice president, his son was hired by a corrupt Romanian businessman who was trying to “influence” government agencies.

According to special counsel David Weiss’ office, Hunter’s business associate will be testifying at the federal tax trial in California about the younger Biden’s arrangement with Gabriel Popoviciu at the time the Romanian businessman was under criminal investigation.

Prosecutors in Hunter’s federal tax trial plan to introduce evidence that the president’s son and his business associate were compensated by a “foreign principal” who was, at the time, “attempting to influence U.S. policy and public opinion.”

Gabriel Popoviciu allegedly wanted US federal agencies to investigate the bribery probe conducted by Romanian officials in hopes that they could put a stop to his legal problems.

While Popoviciu is only identified by the initials G.P. in the court filing, it is clear from the details provided that prosecutors are referring to the Romanian businessman.

Popoviciu was sentenced in 2017 to seven years in prison after he was convicted of real estate fraud.

According to the special counsel’s office, the younger Biden and his associate agreed to help Popoviciu fight the charges but were concerned about the “political ramifications” to then-Vice President Biden from their lobbying efforts. Biden and his business associate concocted an arrangement to conceal “the true nature of the work” they were doing for Popoviciu, the court filing alleges.

Biden’s associate signed an agreement with Popoviciu that implied that the payments received from the Romanian were for “management services” for his real estate properties in Romania. However, this was not what Popoviciu was paying them for, the filing notes.

Instead, in exchange for a payment of more than $3 million, Hunter Biden and his associate agreed to attempt to influence government agencies “to investigate the Romanian investigation,” prosecutors said.

Hunter’s tax trial is scheduled to begin in September in a Los Angeles federal court.
