Human Remains Discovered Near Missing Student’s Apartment

(LibertySociety.com) – A Corpus Christi, Texas, city worker discovered human remains on June 24 near the apartment where college student Caleb Harris, 21, went missing in March.

While doing routine maintenance, the worker found the remains in a 40-foot-deep well and contacted the police. A wastewater collection point, the well is close to Harris’ off-campus apartment. After discovering the remains, authorities drained the well to allow the Corpus Christi Fire Department hazmat team to descend into the well in order to retrieve the remains.

A native of New Braunfels and student at Texas A&M University at Corpus Christi, Harris did not return after going to pick up his Uber Eats delivery order around 3 a.m. March 4. According to his dad, Randall “Randy” Harris, he left his dog inside the apartment. The day after he went missing, his roommate found the order outside the front door of their apartment. His wallet and keys were still inside the apartment, according to police.

When he went missing, his dad noted that while there was “no evidence of wrongdoing,” there was just “no evidence at all.” He added that what happened to his son “is a mystery.”

The food delivery was completed without incident, and the driver continued making deliveries that morning, according to Uber.

Following Harris’ disappearance, the area was “searched many times over,” according to a Corpus Christi Police Department spokesperson. Police noted that the remains showed “no obvious signs of homicide” and are investigating how they ended up in the well.

The remains were sent to the medical examiner’s office. However, “due to the advanced state of decomposition,” the medical examiner could not make an identification or provide a cause of death. DNA analysis will be completed by the University of North Texas Center for Human Identification (UNTCHI).

A GoFundMe for Harris so his family can focus on “bringing Caleb home safe and sound” has raised over $71,000.
