(LibertySociety.com) – Republican state legislatures have been working on ways to make the election process safer and fraud-proof. Georgia’s House recently passed a bill to do just that. Meanwhile, on Capitol Hill, Democrats are trying to undermine their efforts.
On March 3, the House of Representatives passed HR1, also known as the “For the People Act.” The bill is a massive overhaul of the election system. Some of the provisions in the legislation would:
- Make it easier to register to vote
- Extend early voting
- Expand absentee voting
- Restore voting rights to convicted felons
- Target super PACs
- Make it harder for states to clean their voter rolls
Former Vice President Mike Pence penned an op-ed for the Daily Signal before the bill passed and called it unconstitutional. He warned that the Democrats are trying to put the GOP at a disadvantage politically.
HR 1, the so-called For the People Act, will increase opportunities for election fraud, trample the First Amendment, further erode confidence in our elections and should be rejected by every member of Congress and opposed by every patriotic American.

The Democratic Party only has 50 votes in the Senate. They cannot use budget reconciliation to pass this bill, so their only options are to either convince 10 Republicans to vote with them or end the filibuster. It’s unlikely that many members of the GOP will budge, leaving only one option. It remains to be seen whether they’ll take that historic step.
