(LibertySociety.com) – The House committees conducting the impeachment inquiry into President Joe Biden released their initial report that accuses the president of obstruction of justice and abuse of power over his involvement in his family’s foreign business deals.
In an August 19 press release, the House Oversight, Judiciary, and Ways and Means Committees said the report included detailed evidence showing that Biden violated his oath of office as vice president when he “abused his office” to engage in an influence-peddling conspiracy “to enrich his family.”
According to the 291-page report, from 2014 onward, the Biden family conspired to “monetize” Biden’s office to receive more than $27 million from foreign entities and individuals. The Bidens concealed their influence-peddling by setting up shell companies, the report alleges.
The report also accuses Biden of using his position as vice president to gain “favorable outcomes” for Hunter Biden’s foreign business deals with individuals and companies in Russia, Romania, China, Ukraine, and Kazakhstan.
The Biden family also used the vice president’s position to secure more than $8 million in loans from Democrat “benefactors,” many of which have not been repaid, the report alleges.
The report also accuses the Biden Justice Department and FBI of granting special treatment to Hunter Biden by slow-walking the investigation into his foreign business deals, preventing investigators from following traditional lines of inquiry, allowing the statute of limitations to expire, and informing defense counsel of possible investigative actions in advance.
Ways and Means Committee Chairman Jason Smith (R-MO) said in the press release that the administration repeatedly lied to the American people “to cover up and obstruct” the investigation into the Biden family’s influence-peddling scheme.
Judiciary Committee Chair Jim Jordan (R-OH) said the impeachment inquiry conclusively showed that the president “abused his public office for the private financial benefit” of his family.
Oversight Chairman James Comer said the president’s legacy was one of “abuse of public office, corruption, and obstruction.” He said the evidence compiled presented the “strongest case for impeachment” the House has ever made against a sitting president.
