Hollywood Silent As Guilty Verdict on Jussie Smollett Confirmed

(LibertySociety.com) – On December 9, Jussie Smollett’s jury found him guilty of disorderly conduct for staging a fake racial and homophobic attack on himself in 2019. Many celebrities spoke out in support of the actor at the time, condemning what they believed was a hate crime. Now that the court revealed the whole ordeal was a hoax, Hollywood is largely silent on the matter.

In the wake of the attack, stars such as Katy Perry, Cher, and Viola Davis jumped to Smollett’s defense, standing behind the “Empire” star and denouncing racism and hate crimes. Director Rob Reiner went so far as to blame the crime on former President Donald Trump, saying he infused “hatred into the American bloodstream.” Comedian Billy Eichner wished for “Trump and all MAGA lunatics to burn in hell.” They both deleted their tweets once evidence mounted against Smollett, while others did an about-face.

Many continued to stand behind the actor until the recent verdict, but never denounced his actions in public. One exception was actress Alyssa Milano, who posted on Twitter in February 2019, verbalizing her disgust if Smollett had indeed staged the attack. She said it would discouraging be for future victims to come forward.

Since the announcement of Smollett’s verdict, not one celebrity has issued a statement about the finding, and many still have live tweets supporting the perpetrator.
