(LibertySociety.com) – Now that President Joe Biden is officially out of the 2024 presidential race and Vice President Kamala Harris has received his anointment as the best choice to replace him, millions in donations have begun to pour in, especially from the Hollywood elite eager to support her.
According to a recent report, one donor spoke to reporters anonymously and said they were “more excited and motivated” than they had been in months. The anonymous donor added that “everyone” they spoke with said the same thing. The donor told the outlet that many in Hollywood circles have busted out their checkbooks to support the vice president as the presumptive Democratic nominee.
Biden dropped out on Sunday, July 21, and Harris gave her first press conference since his endorsement on the following day. Then on Tuesday, July 23, Harris shared a statement claiming that she “earned” the nomination despite only receiving Biden’s endorsement two days prior. She did not earn the delegates through the primaries, but instead called delegates to secure their support, bypassing voters entirely.
Some notable figures and Hollywood celebrities who officially endorsed Harris include Mark Hamill, Mark Ruffalo, George Takei, Ben Stiller, Robert De Niro, Jon Cryer, Bette Midler, and Alyssa Milano. They also paid tribute to Biden and thanked him for his leadership.
According to the official letter announcing his withdrawal from the race, Biden said it was “in the best interest” of the Democratic Party as well as the country as a whole for him to “stand down” and instead “focus solely on fulfilling” his presidential duties for the remainder of his term. There has been widespread speculation that he may not make it to the end of that term, but Biden did not indicate that he would leave office before January of next year when the winner of the election will be inaugurated.
Republicans criticized the process employed to replace Biden with Harris, describing it as a “coup.” Former President Donald Trump’s running mate, Sen. JD Vance of Ohio, agreed with that assessment and said Democrats should invoke the 25th Amendment to remove Biden because that would be the constitutionally appropriate process.
