(LibertySociety.com) – While Vice President Kamala Harris has refused to hold a press conference or sit for a one-on-one interview since becoming the Democratic nominee, her opponent Donald Trump last Thursday held a 90-minute press conference at his Mar-a-Lago estate where he revealed that he had accepted three invitations to appear in debates with the vice president.
Trump said he accepted invitations from Fox News and NBC News and would appear at the September 10 debate he originally agreed to when President Biden was still the Democratic nominee.
The Fox News debate is scheduled for September 4 and the NBC News debate has been set for September 25.
After President Biden dropped out of the race following the June 27 debate on CNN, the Trump campaign tentatively pulled out of the second Trump-Biden debate scheduled for September 10.
In early August, Trump announced that he accepted an invitation from Fox News to debate Harris on September 4. At the time, Trump said he would not do the ABC News debate, citing Biden’s withdrawal from the race and his supposed “conflict of interest” due to the defamation lawsuit he filed against the network.
The Harris campaign was quick to accuse Trump of cowardice for refusing to debate Harris on September 10 and claimed that he was “running” to Fox News to “bail him out.”
However, during the press conference, the former president recommitted to the ABC News debate along with the other two invitations, telling reporters that he believed it was “very important to have debates.”
When asked at a campaign stop that evening if she would accept the invitations for the other debates, Vice President Harris told reporters that she looked forward to debating Trump on September 10 but refused to commit to either the September 4 or September 25 debates.
Harris suggested that she would be open to discussing additional debates after she and Trump faced off on September 10, a clear indication that she would refuse to attend the earlier debate on Fox News.
Trump also told reporters that his campaign accepted an invitation from CBS News to host a debate between vice presidential candidates JD Vance and Tim Walz.
