Harris Campaign to Hold Exclusive Interview Amidst Backlash

(LibertySociety.com) – Vice President Kamala Harris has promised to do a solo interview soon, following backlash over her recent pre-recorded interview on CNN with Governor Tim Walz. Critics claimed that Harris brought Walz along to avoid speaking for the full hour during her sit-down with CNN’s Dana Bash. The prerecorded format also sparked concerns that CNN might edit the interview to clean up any mistakes or gaffes, especially given its alleged bias against former President Donald Trump.

One popular conservative social media figure, known as “catturd2,” mocked Harris, saying she couldn’t even handle an “edited soft ball CNN interview without backup.” Steve Guest, a communications expert, demanded the full interview be released unedited, implying that viewers deserve to see the entire conversation without any alterations.

In response to the criticism, the Harris campaign told Politico that a solo interview would happen but didn’t specify when. The campaign also pointed out that it’s common for major party candidates to conduct joint interviews, referencing past presidential races since 2004. Still, they acknowledged that Harris will do solo interviews as well.

Harris hasn’t faced an unscripted press conference or one-on-one interview about policy matters in over a month. In fact, the last time she did a live solo news conference was in December 2023. Since joining the presidential race, her unscripted remarks have often led to confusion. She has struggled to deliver clear answers, especially on complex topics like the economy.

For example, during a recent appearance, she talked about the “duality to the nature of democracy,” leaving many wondering what exactly she meant. In another instance, she repeated the phrase “return on investment” several times while explaining taxpayer spending, which only added to the confusion. One of her more awkward moments came when she gave a motivational speech to a Pennsylvania football team, telling them, “You will be undefeated even if you don’t win every game,” raising eyebrows about her choice of words.

Throughout her career, Harris has had a history of such gaffes, which has only intensified the calls for her to face unscripted interviews.
