(LibertySociety.com) – Former President Barack Obama is gearing up to hit the campaign trail next week to support Vice President Kamala Harris in key battleground states. According to an anonymous senior campaign official, Obama will begin his efforts in Pennsylvania, one of the most hotly contested states, starting in the Pittsburgh area.
Obama, who served as president from 2009 to 2017, is stepping in as Pennsylvania shows signs of a tight race. Recent polls have Harris leading Trump by only two points among registered voters, while the race is neck-and-neck among likely voters. Pennsylvania has been a crucial state in past elections, with Biden winning it by 80,000 votes in 2020.
Eric Schultz, Obama’s senior advisor, stated that the former president is committed to helping Harris win the presidency, along with aiding Democrats in Congress. “President Obama knows the stakes couldn’t be higher, which is why he’s doing everything he can to help Kamala Harris and other Democrats get elected,” Schultz said. “Our focus now is on persuading and mobilizing voters, especially in key battlegrounds.”
Obama remains very popular among Democrats and is also well-regarded by many independent voters, despite a mostly negative view among Republicans. Democrats hope his presence on the campaign trail will energize their base and appeal to swing voters.
Obama and his wife, Michelle, endorsed Harris after Biden ended his 2024 re-election campaign earlier this year. At the Democratic National Convention, Obama praised Harris, saying she is “ready for the job” and that this election will be a “fight for the America we believe in.”
In the coming weeks, Obama will continue his efforts by fundraising, recording campaign ads, and traveling to boost voter turnout. His presence is seen as a major asset for Harris as she fights to gain an edge in the final stretch before Election Day.
