Haley on Biden, McConnell, Feinstein’s Health: ‘Walk Away’

(LibertySociety.com) – Although former South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley is polling at around 3 percent in most 2024 presidential primary polls, she does have some ideas that are popular with the American people. Haley offered a message to the older members of Congress during a CBS interview on July 30, where she discussed the need for a new generation of leaders. She expressed her appreciation for the lawmakers who have served for many years, specifically highlighting Kentucky Senator Mitch McConnell’s accomplishments with judicial confirmations. However, Haley believes that it is time for him and other lawmakers to hang up their hats, stating that they need to “Know when to walk away.”

Haley argued that congressional experience should not be a reason to keep electing the same people. She said that Americans need to feel confident that their representatives are “at the top of their game,” adding that she believes term limits are something to be fought for. Haley has been calling for competency tests for those aged 75 and older since she launched her bid for president, which has been met with mixed reviews in Washington. However, Americans on both sides of the political spectrum often complain about the advanced age of the people who are making laws about things that many believe they may not even understand.

A viral video of 90-year-old California Democrat Senator Dianne Feinstein recently renewed calls for her to step down, although she is not expected to retire until her term ends in January 2025. Feinstein was supposed to be voting for or against a bill in the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee but instead began giving a speech detailing the reasons she was voting for it. Another Senator could be heard telling Feinstein to only give a vote of yes or no, which seemed to confuse her, prompting a staff member to come to her side and again tell her to only give her vote. This incident happened just one day after Senator McConnell appeared to freeze for nearly half a minute shortly after beginning a GOP press briefing.
