Guatemalan Pop-Up Restaurant Serves Pizza Cooked Over Live Volcano

(LibertySociety.com) – When you have a dream and you put in the hard work to bring it to life, anything is possible, even if that means cooking pizza on the side of an active volcano.

In 2014, Mario David García Mansilla, an accountant from a small town in Guatemala, noticed tourists roasting marshmallows on the side of the Pacaya volcano near his home. He was inspired to follow his passion of owning a pizzeria. Although his pizza place isn’t in a strip mall in the middle of a city, it exists on one of the most active volcanoes in the Central American Volcanic Arc chain.

To the amazement of the many tourists, who are now customers who visit Pacaya each year, Mansilla cooks his pizza to perfection on “lava oozing down” the volcano. Several times a week, he makes the trek close to Pacaya’s peak with his ingredients and cookware for the day to delight pizza lovers with his special cooking techniques.

It took five years from the concept to the execution of Mansilla’s unique vision, but he never gave up. And if his example isn’t a testament to achieving dreams through hard work and dedication, we don’t know what is.
