Governor Newsom Comments on Potential Governor DeSantis 2024 Run

(LibertySociety.com) – In an interview on Inside with Jen Psaki on MSNBC, California Governor Gavin Newsom expressed his opinion on what would happen if Governor Ron DeSantis challenged former President Donald Trump in the 2024 Presidential Primary Election. Governor Newsom held nothing back, stating that “He’s going to get rolled by Trump.” He believes that Governor DeSantis should wait a few years to run for president after he has more experience as a leader.

Governor Newsom also criticized Governor Ron DeSantis for comments he made towards Alvin Bragg, the District Attorney from Manhattan who has charged former President Trump with 34 felonies. Newsom has launched several attacks on DeSantis since early 2020, criticizing the way he managed the state of Florida. DeSantis took a less authoritative approach to mitigate the virus, while Newsom was more of a micromanager.

Governor Newsom has also responded critically to recent actions by Governor DeSantis regarding the curriculum that was removed from public schools and universities in Florida, visiting students at New College of Florida during the first week of April 2023, which DeSantis labeled as a stunt. DeSantis has mounted an effort to do away with Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) programs that he claims are divisive and also teach historically inaccurate content. Some other states have banned the teachings of Critical Race Theory (CRT) and are now going after DEI, which has connotations of CRT.

Governor Newsom and Governor DeSantis are both viewed as potential presidential material; however, Newsom has already stated that he will not be running against President Joe Biden in 2024. DeSantis has not made an official announcement to run in 2024, but he has been traveling to several locations where early primary elections take place, sparking rumors that he will ultimately announce a run against former President Trump. Many believe that he is waiting for the end of the legislative session in Florida before he makes an official announcement.
