(LibertySociety.com) – Former President Donald Trump is arguably one of the most popular Republicans in history. He received more votes last November than any other sitting president in the history of the country. As the GOP gears up for its primary races for the 2022 midterms, experts believe some candidates have found a way to attack their rivals by using the former POTUS’s popularity.
According to a June 15 report by The Hill, Republican candidates are weaponizing past comments their opponents made about Trump. Opposition researchers and GOP strategists told the news organization that they have discovered that using anti-Trump comments candidates made against them help their rivals stand out in the crowded field.

An example of the strategy is on full display in North Carolina. Rep. Ted Budd (R), who is running for Senator Richard Burr’s (R) seat, has reportedly been working quietly to let Trump know about negative comments his opponent, former Governor Pat McCrory (R), made about him on his radio show. He also worked behind the scenes to expose critical comments his other rival, former Rep. Mark Walker (R), made about Trump’s daughter-in-law Lara. This alleged scheming is said to have won Budd an endorsement from the former president.
There’s no doubt the GOP is the party of Trump. He proved that in the election. Candidates who capitalize on Trump’s trust and their opponents’ past criticism of him could maximize their chances of capturing the attention of voters who miss the former commander-in-chief. Ultimately, votes at the ballot box will be the true tale.
