GOP Rep Reportedly Reveals There May Be Fraud Involving Mayorkas

(LibertySociety.com) – Republicans in Congress have spent the last several months questioning and scrutinizing Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, gathering information in an effort to impeach him. Now lawmakers in the House Homeland Security Committee believe there may be grounds to move forward with the effort. Representative Mark Green, who chairs the committee, told The Daily Caller that confidential sources have been “sharing some information with us that there’s potential fraud” regarding the activities of Secretary Mayorkas.

While a few lawmakers have already introduced impeachment articles against Secretary Mayorkas, House Speaker Kevin McCarthy has not cleared the way for such a move, previously expressing his support for investigations and a possible resignation from Mayorkas. However, Rep. Green stated that he believes the information that he obtained “warrants impeachment,” stressing that Secretary Mayorkas does not write laws, but is supposed to enforce them. He believes that a failure to do the duties of his position is reason enough to start the impeachment process, but this new information could solidify their decision. Republicans in the House and Senate have compiled a long list of what they believe is a dereliction of duty, preparing for the right time to move forward.

In February 2023, DHS hired lawyers to represent Secretary Mayorkas to prepare for a Republican-led effort to impeach him, releasing a pointed statement defending his position. Since then, Republicans in both chambers have engaged in heated exchanges with Secretary Mayorkas in multiple committee hearings, with accusations of enabling cartels that conduct human and drug trafficking operations, failing to keep up with over 85,000 unaccompanied minors who were released into the country, and lying about the crisis at the southern border. Senators Ted Cruz of Texas and Josh Hawley of Missouri have both called on Secretary Mayorkas to resign, but Senator Roger Marshall of Kansas recently announced that the Senate could put forward a resolution of no confidence to send to the House, letting them know they would back his impeachment. Secretary Mayorkas has maintained that Congress needs to pass new immigration legislation to aid in resolving challenges at the border.
