GOP Lawmaker Unveils Vote of No Confidence Resolution Against Mayorkas

Republican Senator Releases No Confidence Resolution for Secretary Mayorkas

(LibertySociety.com) – Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas was in the hot seat once again, testifying before the Senate Homeland Security Committee on April 18th, 2023. He faced tough questions from Senators who have expressed belief that he is incapable of performing the duties of his position. According to a Fox News report, Senator Roger Marshall, R-Kansas, notified Mayorkas during the hearing that he would be introducing a resolution into the Senate to force a vote of no confidence in his ability to do his job.

Marshall stated, “I stand at the ready to receive articles of impeachment from the House,” but he believes that the Senate needs to send a clear message to the House about their lack of confidence in Mayorkas. According to recent reports, Marshall unveiled his no confidence resolution on April 20 in the form of a nine-page document. However, getting the resolution passed is expected to be a challenge in the Democrat-controlled Senate.

Some lawmakers in the House have filed impeachment articles against Mayorkas, but House Speaker Kevin McCarthy previously expressed the need for investigations before acting. The last several hearings that have taken place in the House and the Senate have been quite grueling for Mayorkas.

The Department of Homeland Security began preparing for Mayorkas’ impeachment in February 2023, hiring attorneys to assist in responding to the inquiry. The resolution introduced by Senator Marshall addresses the conduct of Mayorkas, the perceived failure to secure the southern border, the number of terrorists detained, the increase in fentanyl coming into the country, and the total illegal migrant encounters. The resolution also includes the details surrounding the accusations of border patrol agents whipping Haitian migrants during a massive influx in 2021, which Mayorkas was accused of going along with despite knowing agents didn’t whip the migrants.

In response to the resolution, a spokesperson for the Biden administration told Congress that they should be concerned with reforming immigration law instead of focusing on Mayorkas. Republicans have been adamant in their claim that the policies of the Biden administration have encouraged illegal migration.
