GOP Demands Investigation of Noncitizen Voting Allegations

(LibertySociety.com) – The Republican National Committee and the Minnesota Republican Party have called on the Minnesota Secretary of State to launch an investigation after an illegal alien admitted that he received a ballot by mail to vote in the state primary despite never registering to vote.

In an August 5 letter to Secretary of State Steve Simon, RNC Election Integrity Counsel Kevin Cline and Minnesota GOP Chair David Hann said the incident indicated flaws in the state’s election system that would allow lawfully present non-citizens to vote.

They called on the Secretary of State to conduct a review of the state’s voter rolls to ensure that non-citizens are not registered and are not mailed ballots.

The RNC cited the 2023 “Drivers Licenses For All” law signed by Governor Tim Walz that permits residents of Minnesota, regardless of immigration status, to obtain a driver’s license.

Cline and Hann demanded to know if the state’s voter registration system was updated to ensure that those with driver’s licenses were not automatically registered to vote.

Governor Walz claimed at the time that the law would ensure increased safety in the state by granting licenses to 81,000 illegal immigrants.

However, the RNC noted in its letter that allowing non-citizens to obtain driver’s licenses increased the risk of non-citizens voting in Minnesota elections because they were “no longer required to provide proof of citizenship or lawful presence.”

The letter asked the Secretary of State to provide information on what protocols were in place to ensure that the non-citizens who obtained driver’s licenses were unable to register or vote in elections.

They demanded to know what steps the Secretary of State’s office had taken to ensure that the voter rolls only contained the names of those legally allowed to vote.

The letter also demanded a review of the state’s voter rolls to ensure that mailed ballots are only sent to eligible registered voters.

RNC Chairman Michael Whatley said voters in Minnesota should have “confidence that their elections are secure” and that non-citizens are not voting. He said the RNC would “take every step necessary” to ensure that the laws preventing non-citizens from voting are “enforced at every turn.”
