George Soros $3M Funding For Left-Wing Groups in the South

(LibertySociety.com) – Billionaire George Soros has unsurprisingly taken a special interest in the 2024 elections across the country, particularly in Texas. Democrats have long sought to flip the state from red to blue, with little meaningful success in decades. The state legislature has been controlled by Republicans for 20 years, and Republican Governor Greg Abbott was resoundingly reelected in 2022. The office of the governor has been held by a Republican for the last 29 years. However, Democrats have not given up hope as the state is now populated by more Hispanic people than white people.

Soros has spent $3 million in the last year to prepare for the upcoming elections. His known contributions went to five different left-wing groups, including the Texas Majority PAC. Soros gave the PAC several hundred thousand dollars from his Democracy PAC II before it was publicly launched. Just last year, the PAC raised $2.25 million solely from Soros and his PAC. His personal contribution accounted for $1.4 million of the total.

The Texas Tribune reported that the Texas Majority PAC was being run by staffers who once worked for Beto O’Rourke’s 2022 gubernatorial campaign. O’Rourke lost to Abbott by 10.9 percentage points, dealing a big blow to Democrats who thought they had a chance. Katherine Fischer, who works as the PAC’s executive director, recently said that the group needed “millions of more dollars and hundreds of more full-time staff” to flip the state blue. She also said that the group’s work with various partners in Texas could make the goal a reality.

Other groups, such as the Texas Organizing Project, have also received funds from Soros. The group has faced scrutiny for using funds to bail criminals out of jail. During the same month as Soros’s $250,000 donation, the group was in the headlines for previously posting bail for a man who went on to kill six people. Former Texas Republican Representative Mayra Flores recently weighed in on Soros’s efforts in the state. She said that he is spending the money to influence Hispanic voters who are leaning toward voting Republican. She also believes that his goal is to prevent Hispanic Republicans from winning elections in the state.
