Gavin Newsom Says Democrats Will Suffer if He Loses Recall Election

( – Governor Gavin Newsom’s (D-CA) job hangs in the balance; a recall election scheduled for September 14 will ultimately decide his fate. But the California leader warns the entire nation will feel the effects for “many many years” if voters succeed in pulling him from office.

The current petition to oust Newsom started before the pandemic. It gained traction after his restrictive COVID-19 measures angered over 1.7 million residents of the Golden State. It’s worth noting that the successful recall trigger has backing from Republican individuals and groups who disagree with how the governor runs the place they call home.

Newsom believes voters must reconsider the implications of his removal. He feels such a move might “give Republicans an advantage in the 2022 midterms.” In fact, he recently called the effort a backdoor rightwing extremist effort to overturn the results of the 2020 election.

If the special process succeeds in removing him from office, it might also prompt the 18 other states with recall laws to do the same. This could significantly shift the political landscape across nearly half of the United States.

Of the 46 candidates currently on the ballot, half are Republicans; just 9 are Democrats. This opens up the possibility for California to see conservative leadership before the end of 2021.
