Former President Donald Trump Leads in New GOP Survey

Former President Trump Leads in Polls for Republicans

( – Morning Consult released the results of a recent survey, showing former President Trump with a wide lead over any other potential challenger for the 2024 Presidential election. He sits at 47% in the poll, which surveyed 3,258 likely voters. Coming in second at 31% was Florida Governor Ron DeSantis.

Polling at 3% in the Morning Consult survey, Nikki Haley, a former U.N. Ambassador and two-term Governor of South Carolina, announced her Presidential run this week. Haley had previously stated that she would not throw her name in the race if former President Trump said he was running. Hearing news of her potential announcement, Trump took to Truth Social to share the video of Haley when she made this claim, saying that Haley should follow her heart and run. Breitbart News reported that during his recent rally in South Carolina, Trump stated she called him about it, and “I said you should do it.”

In this recent survey, all other potential candidates aside from DeSantis, including former Vice-President Mike Pence, all polled in the single digits. However, the poll showed that Biden is coming out slightly ahead of Trump in a hypothetical matchup.

Some critics fear a repeat of 2016, claiming that more competition for the former President could help him during the primary, as reported by USA Today. Although DeSantis has not announced a Presidential run, he has earned a significant amount of support in the Republican Party, even leading or tying with Trump in some other polls, such as one recent survey from Monmouth University. A separate report from the Morning Consult released on February 13 suggested that DeSantis is more popular in many areas than either Trump or Biden.

Who do you think will ultimately secure the Republican nomination for president?
