Former NSA Analyst Pleads Guilty to Leaking Top Secrets

(LibertySociety.com) – In 2019, the US Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Virginia announced the arrest of 31-year-old Daniel Everette Hale, a former intelligence analyst for the National Security Agency (NSA). Prosecutors alleged that he leaked classified documents to a journalist while he was working in intelligence. Nearly two years later, he has admitted to the crimes.

On March 31, Assistant Attorney General John Demers said that Hale admitted he took classified documents from the NSA and sent them to a reporter. According to the Epoch Times, the former Air Force member started speaking to a journalist in 2013. The following year, he printed six classified documents, reportedly related to the Obama administration’s drone strikes, and gave them to the reporter. The news outlet that the reporter worked for later printed the documents for publication.

Hale is scheduled for sentencing on July 13. He faces up to 10 years in federal prison.
