FDA Launches Investigation Into Top US Food Company Over Illness Reports

(LibertySociety.com) – The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is currently investigating several reports of people claiming they got sick after eating Lucky Charms. Over 100 consumers said they had nausea, diarrhea, and vomiting after dining on the popular cereal.

On April 17, the founder of iwaspoisoned.com announced he received over 3,000 reports about the popular breakfast food over the last few weeks. After reports from the site went public, more complaints to the FDA surfaced. One mother from Lexington, Kentucky, said she fed Lucky Charms to her two-year-old, who got sick after consuming it.

An FDA spokeswoman said the agency is taking the matter seriously and is working with General Mills to get to the bottom of the alleged issue.

Consumers can never be too careful, given salmonella outbreaks in various foods like Honey Smacks in 2018 and Froot Loops in 2010. General Mills already conducted a review of Lucky Charms and found nothing wrong with the cereal. However, they ask any people with concerns to contact the company as the FDA continues its investigation into the consumer reports.

Although there are no recalls yet, it might be wise to hold off on eating the magically delicious charms sitting in your cupboard until the FDA completes its investigation.
