(LibertySociety.com) – The number of whistleblowers coming forward to allege malfeasance by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, has prompted lawmakers to warn of a growing problem within the agency. Senator Josh Hawley, R-MO., during a hearing with U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland, detailed a document that was turned over by a whistleblower who claimed the agency was labeling people who attend a traditional type of Catholic Mass, called Latin Mass, as potential violent extremists. The source that advised the FBI to issue the memo the whistleblowers turned over was the Southern Poverty Law Center, which is a far left-wing activist group.
More whistleblower documents have been released by Republicans from an agent accusing the agency of using domestic terrorist threat tags to target pro-life activists. According to reporting from Just The News, testimony revealed that the threat tag was created for agents to identify extremists who were believed to be a threat to pro-life Supreme Court Justices after Roe v. Wade was overturned. Agents were allegedly guided to use the tag THREATTOSCOTUS2022, when instructed to look into pregnancy centers.
The whistleblower, Garret O’Boyle, expressed his skepticism of the guidance since the potential domestic terrorists were anti-abortion activists that were targeting the Supreme Court Justices, not pro-lifers who frequented pregnancy centers. While never receiving instructions to look into the attacks that were happening against these facilities, he was instead asked to talk “about the threats to the Supreme Court” by reaching out to a pro-life informant. O’Boyle indicated he was confused, as he said pro-life activists were not targeting Supreme Court Justices.
O’Boyle also cited ethical concerns from the FBI, claiming he was instructed to “open a case for every individual” to falsely inflate the rise of domestic terror so that Congress would allocate more funds to the agency. O’Boyle stated that they had him separate a single domestic terrorism case into four cases, one for each person involved. Ultimately, O’Boyle was allegedly suspended from his position for blowing the whistle to Congress, which violates laws set up to protect whistleblowers.
The FBI has been under scrutiny for many years, but members of Congress have ramped up their efforts to seek accountability and retribution. Representative Jim Jordan, R-Ohio, has expressed his gratitude for O’Boyle coming forward in this case.
