FBI Director Warns Of Very Dangerous Border Threats

(LibertySociety.com) – During a March 11 testimony before the Senate Intelligence Committee, FBI Director Christopher Wray warned that there was “a wide array” of threats occurring at the southern border of the United States. Senator Marco Rubio, R-Fla., asked about the Tren de Aragua gang, which is reportedly attempting to set up a home base within the United States. Wray said he could not provide specifics regarding gangs but confirmed that very dangerous people were coming into the country through the southern border. Wray said that the threats included drug trafficking, specifically fentanyl. He noted that the gangs were responsible for a large portion of violent crime in the country and were directly involved with distributing fentanyl.

Customs and Border Protection (CBP) recently circulated a bulletin within the agency to warn agents to look for evidence of gang affiliation when encountering illegal migrants crossing into the country. Members of the Tren De Aragua gang often have tattoos with gang signs and wear Chicago Bulls apparel. The brother of the illegal migrant who killed Georgia nursing student Laken Riley reportedly has ties to the gang. He was arrested during the search for Riley after giving a fake green card to authorities. Evidence of his involvement with the gang was discovered on his social media accounts.

Rubio also asked Director Wray if global smuggling networks were tied to ISIS or any other terrorist organizations. Wray expressed the need to be careful about disclosing sensitive information in public but said that one particular network does have ties to ISIS. He said that the FBI was “very concerned” about the network and that the agency was spending most of its time investigating with its partners. He said that figuring out the details of what that specific network was doing was at the forefront of the agency’s current investigation. When Rubio asked him to confirm if that network was the one related to ISIS, Wray confirmed again.
