Ex-RNC Chair Predicts Trump’s Dominance in Upcoming Primaries

(LibertySociety.com) – Following former President Trump’s massive Iowa caucus victory on January 15, many are stating the obvious about the likelihood of his domination in upcoming primary races. He received 51 percent of the votes, with Florida Governor Ron DeSantis losing by a whopping 30 percentage points. Former Republican National Committee (RNC) chairman Michael Steele said as much during an appearance on MSNBC, arguing that “people need to be realistic about whose party this is.” Steele became the first black RNC chair in 2009 and served until 2011. He was also Maryland’s first black lieutenant governor from 2003 to 2007.

Steele told former White House press secretary and current MSNBC host Jen Psaki that Trump would undoubtedly win the Republican nomination and could possibly win the upcoming primary in New Hampshire. He currently leads former South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley by 13 percentage points, but her endorsement from New Hampshire Governor Chris Sununu and Democrat vote switchers could push her across the finish line in the state. Psaki told Steele that the Republican Party has been different since Trump came into the picture. Steele agreed but said that the voters are committed to Trump and that he does not see Haley or “anybody else stopping that from happening.”

Both GOP debates ahead of the New Hampshire primary were canceled after Haley said that she would not participate unless Trump did. DeSantis participated in a CNN town hall event in New Hampshire on January 16, where he attempted a jab at Trump and Haley for not agreeing to debate. DeSantis has not fared well in New Hampshire and has spent little time campaigning in the state. A recent Boston Globe/Suffolk poll showed DeSantis in last place with just five percent support. Following his withdrawal from the Republican primary after the results of the Iowa caucus came in, entrepreneur and author Vivek Ramaswamy endorsed Trump. He gave a fiery speech at Trump’s rally in New Hampshire the following night and indicated that he would work tirelessly to help get Trump a second term.
